Crafting music is undoubtedly always connected to two aspects: first, it is inherently a technical problem solving; somewhere, there 'must' be a technical problem to be tackled regarding one or more aspects of the work. It is the question of 'WHAT' is being attempted in a piece, and the music arises more as a byproduct of the composer's attempt to solve the problem(s). Then there is also an aesthetic side, which is the question of 'HOW' the composer approaches the self-imposed problem and 'HOW' this problem is ultimately solved. Composing imo is a finely balanced symmetry of these two pillars.
